Character Education Skit - November 7, 2008 The Bell Top Staff Acting Company got rave reviews from the audience with their skit, “Homework Excuses.” Miss Lydia Clemente, fifth grader, played the role of the exasperated teacher who has to listen to the same excuses day after day. Therese Bennett, Carol Phelps, Sheri Valenti, Mary Ann Morgan, Tara O’Connell, and Melanie Lyte-Peterson hammed up their roles as the homework excuse makers. All vied to utter the line, “My mom forgot to put it in my folder,” a favorite of students everywhere. Mom, played by Amanda Forth, was not pleased to be the excuse. Jean Hirt played the role the conscientious student, and in the end her report card showed her hard work. Presented at Bell Top’s Final Touch Program, the children got the message that by doing your homework with no excuses they are living the motto, “It’s always your turn to learn.” The skit kicked off a month long contest to see which classroom in the school can have the most days of every student completing all of his or her homework.
