I announced on Friday, March 12th, that I would be trying out new entry procedures for our students in the morning. The purpose is to alleviate the rush of students into the building and allow our front door staff (myself, and Officer Deseve) to better indentify all individuals entering our building. The process involves staggering buses on their release time and will result in no disruption to students. This is another effort to improve our security.

The National Merit Scholarship[ (NMS) Corporation has announced the names of the students who have met the rigorous requirements for Finalist standing in the 2010 NMS Program. Once again, East Greenbush Central School District’s seniors have met this challenge and have qualified as National Merit Scholarship Finalists.
This is distinction of honor was earned by Columbia High School students Jeffrey Knox and Megan Smead, and places them in a group representing about one-half of one percent of the United States high school graduating seniors. To become Finalists, Semi-Finalists must have an outstanding high school academic record, be endorsed and recommended by their school principal, and submit SAT scores that confirm their earlier qualifying test scores. The students, and a school official, were also required to submit a detailed scholarship application, which included a self-descriptive essay, and a detailed outline of their participation and leadership in school and community activities. On March 10th, 2010, Columbia High School students celebrated the “Arts at Columbia” by hosting our Board of Education meeting. Over 500 people attended the event which featured performances from our Strings and Orchestra groups, and Chorus students.
