Welcome to the homepage for the Donald P. Sutherland School. The Donald P. Sutherland School "D.P.S." is one of five elementary schools in the East Greenbush Central School District. DPS is located in the village of Nassau. Currently, our school has an enrollment of 320 students in grades Kindergarten through Five.
I have been the principal of DPS for the last six years and enjoy being a part of the school community. Our students continue to excel on the NYS Assessments in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies as well as strive to be "Kids with Character".

State Report Presentations – Posted May 16, 2012
Parents and community members at DPS took a tour of the United States as they walked through the gymnasium on Tuesday. The presentations were the result of months of research. Community Meeting on Building Consolidation and Closure Study - Posted April 10, 2012

DPS Children's Fair - Posted March 13, 2012
On Saturday, March 10th DPS held a Children’s Fair. Dozens of volunteers including parents, alumni, 5th grade students and DPS faculty staffed a wide variety of carnival type games including a poster toss, bottle toss, plinko, a fish pond, a cake walk, golf and face painting. Mark Wood, an award-winning composer, international recording artist, and electric violinist, is widely acknowledged as the premier electric rock violinist of his generation.
Mark is bringing his knowledge and expertise in the field of progressive string education to the District's orchestra students, grades 5-12, in a two-day workshop; which, will culminate in a special performance on Saturday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m. at Columbia High School. Read more...
Board of Ed. Approves Changes for Transportation to Daycare/Alternate Location Policy - Posted February 9, 2012
At its January 25th meeting, the Board of Education approved a transportation policy change. Beginning in September 2012, as a cost-saving measure, the District will align itself with the New York State Education Department's guidelines for Daycare/Alternate Transportation in School Districts. Parent Portal Users Must Create New Account – Posted December 21, 2011
Beginning December 23, all PowerSchool parent portal users will have to create a new account. An update to Powerschool allows parent portal users to choose their own user names and passwords and link multiple children to their account.
In the past, each child received a separate user account and password assigned by the district technology team. To create a new account you must have the current username and password for each of your children.

Our School Community and Businesses Working Together for Our Students - Posted September 8, 2011
Take Charge of Education® is a Target school fundraising initiative. It offers families, teachers, and community members an easy way to designate a school of their choice to receive one percent of their purchases made with a Target credit card or a Target check card.
Price Chopper is also working with our school community to assist in giving all seven of our schools an opportunity to receive school supplies from the Price Chopper Advantage Card points earned by the purchases of the program’s participants. Read more...
