MEDIA CENTER POLICIES

GOAL OF THE MEDIA CENTER:
To assist each student in becoming an independent, life-long learner by understanding and using resource materials available to them in print and on-line.  To teach each student to appreciate good literature so that they will become life-long readers.

CHECKING OUT BOOKS:
Some books can leave the media center, others must stay.  All books are on a two week lending period.  Grade K-1 take out one book.  After the first of the new year (Jan.), Grade 1 will be allowed to check out two books.  Grades 2-5 are allowed to check out two books.

OVERDUE POLICY:
Library books should be returned before they are overdue.  If they're not returned, we are not happy.  Books can be renewed for a second time.  We must have the books for renewal.

If a student is overdue for two or more library times, a note will be sent home as a reminder with the cost of the book if it needs to be replaced.

At the end of the year, we recommend that the students have a "clean" library record.  Any book that hasn't been returned will be assumed lost and a bill will be issued.

In the following September any student who still has an outstanding overdue will not be allowed to take out books until the record is cleared.

DONATIONS:
Genet Library accepts donations.  We gladly take brand new books which we will process with a book plate on the inside cover.  The book plate will have the name of the student and the year it was donated.  A good time to donate a book is on a student's birthday.

We will also accept books that come from the home library.  The student may have outgrown the selection and you have been wondering how to clear them from the shelves.  If the books are in good condition and on a K-5 reading level we will consider them.  Any that we decide not to keep, I donate to GCC for their use.

LIBRARY HOURS:
Our library is open from the start of the school day until dismissal.

During the school day, if the lights are off and the doors are closed, it means there is no supervision for students and no one to assist faculty members.  All parties should return at a later time when someone is available to assist and/or supervise.
