Goff Organic Garden
News from the Garden

For the past few years the Organic Garden has provided the students at Goff Middle School with the opportunity to learn about sustainable agriculture and environmental awareness, while providing the needy members of our community with organic produce. Over a ton of food has been donated each year. This year we have made changes and added some new programs.

  • We have partnered with the First United Methodist Church. Members will be taking over two sections of the garden to grow produce for needy families. Volunteers will also provide "garden sitting" services during the last week of July and first week of August by watering, picking and donating the ripe produce.
  • Mike McNamara, a special education teacher, has taken over a section of the garden and planted giant pumpkins. Who knows how big they will get! Watch for a "Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin" contest in the fall.
  • The Summer Program will run from June through August. We will meet Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm.  We will continue to operate the Farmer's Market and donate produce on Thursdays.
  • The Fall program will also continue as soon as school is in session. This year produce, such as potatoes, garlic, and winter squash, will be used by the 6th grade cooking classes.
