Process
  • Throughout the year you have heard book talks about popular books. This has surely given you some ideas for books you might want to read. Now you will be choosing an author to study. Go to the link below and browse New York Public Library's 100 Favorite Children's Books. Choose an author to research and one of her or his books to read.
  • Conference with your teacher about your author and book choice.
  • Click here to download your contract and then print it out. Complete the contract and make sure all the signatures are filled in. The checklist will help you organize your work.
  • Read the book you have chosen.
  • Find out about the author. Go to the resources section for websites that will help you with your research.
  • When you are ready to create your presentation, print out the PowerPoint Story Board. Make sure you have the storyboard all filled out before you start working with PowerPoint.
    • Remember to focus on your subject and how best to convey your message.
    • Do not write your whole report on the slides -- only place important points on the slide and use the Notes space to elaborate.
    • You will not be reading the slides to your audience as this is very boring. Rather, the words on the slides will help your audience focus on the main topics as you speak in more detail on the topics from your speaker notes (or from index cards etc.)
    • Use visuals and effects sparingly and only to make a point.
  • Your second job is as part of a publishing team evaluating other literary agents' presentations. Your teacher will assign you to a team and give you a task. Download and print the Publisher's Guidelines to use as you are viewing the presentations.
