Mr. Ray Werking When did you work here or go to school here as a student? I was here when it opened on a Sunday in 1955. I was in second grade. My teacher was Miss Spire. My grandmother taught 5th grade. How many grades were there? There were 6 grades. How many principals were there? Who were they? Mrs. Bell was the principal then. I remember the motto was "Whatever you choose to do, you can do it." Also, we went into a room after school and it was all blue. It was "My Blue Heaven." Was there a playground? No, we played on the land and swings. We played dodge ball, made up our own games, jump rope, hopscotch, and softball. There was no sandbox. Were there more or less classrooms? The classrooms were much smaller. They had 30 students in each classroom. The library kept evolving from a very small library. It was on the other side next to the nurse's office. There was only 1 class per grade level. The school took 10 months to build. What things do you remember that were different than they are now in the school or the district? I remember going to Genet for K-1. Green Meadow was added on 2 times. The opening was on a Sunday. The stage was a cafetorium, part cafeteria and part auditorium. Mrs. Bell was the first only half day principal/teacher. My dad drove a bus.
