Playaway Audio Books
We have purchased 6 Playaway—self-playing digital audiobooks for our library. They are a small MP3 type of audio book that uses an AAA battery and headphones. We are ordering disposable headphones for circulation. We will let you know when they are ready to be checked out.
The titles we received are:

- Miss Nelson is Missing and other stories
- Sylvester and the Magic Pebble
- Jigsaw Jones Mysteries
Red Mill's Third Annual Family Reading Night
Red Mill Elementary School families, teachers and staff shared their love of reading on January 24th . More than 103 students attended the third annual reading event along with their families. Readings by parents, teachers and Rose Stuart from East Greenbush Community Library took place in the Library and Music Room. Milk and cookies were served and a book swap in the cafeteria ended the fun evening.
Fourth Grade and Fifth Grades had special reading events to attend.
Fourth Grade ‘s Reading Night Out
In Mr. Peter Goodwin’s classroom, fourth grade students signed up to video tape stories and infomercials about books that will be aired on WRMS Channel 8, Red Mill’s cable television show.
Fifth Grade Midnight Madness
Fifth grade students entered a lottery to be able to attend a camping reading marathon from 7PM until midnight. 18 readers camped out in tents and sleeping bags in the former Science Lab hosted by Mrs. Hutchings and Mrs. Maczek. The camping readers read a total of 267 chapters from start until midnight. Between reading and storytelling, the campers feasted on pizza and s’mores.
Where In The World Has Flat Stanley Been????

From Red Mill to the World!
Students in Second Grade read the short chapter book Flat Stanley in library class and then sent three Flat Stanleys to friends and relatives around the world. Flat Stanley returned to Red Mill School from 6 countries, 67 places in the USA and Caribbean and 36 cities and towns in New York State. The Flat Stanley project has proved a fun learning activity that will be repeated in years to come. Check the bulletin boards outside the library before the Flat Stanleys go home with their students.
Chapter Book Challenge
Fourteen second grade students completed the first Chapter Book Challenge. The Chapter Book Challenge was developed to boost students into reading longer chapters books. The students met four times before school or after school to read together The Magic Tree House book– Afternoon on the Amazon.
Feed back from parents, students and teachers said this reading activity was rewarding.
Genii is looking to repeat the Grade 2 Chapter Book Challenge and add an another grade level next year.
