Santa Recruits the Transportation Team to Help Spread Holiday Cheer- Posted December 22, 2011

With the help and donations of many local businesses, the District’s Transportation Department collected over 3,000 candy canes to distribute to the our elementary school students. Santa and his elves delivered the treats in person on Tuesday, December 20th as the culmination to the Transportation Departments yearly Adopt-A-Family program.

The Transportation Department’s program has been helping families in need for many years. This year they were able to help 5 families, one from each of the District’s elementary schools. Bus drives and aides asked for donations of cash and gifts, and held 50/50 raffles to help fund the program. They are proud to report that collections of over $700 in cash and donations filled the lists for each family.

“Undertakings like these are never easy, but everyone helped out to make it another huge success,” said MaryAnn Belmont, Transportation Supervisor. “We are lucky to have such a caring and dedicated staff that put the needs of their bus students and their community first. It is a pleasure to be a part of a group effort that brings about such good cheer to the District’s students and families.”
